Each day consisted of breaking down the camp, loading up her horses with over 200 pounds, and riding 20 or so miles to the next night's camp, where Janice cared for her horses, set up her camp, and then took care of herself. She had to learn how to eat enough to have the energy to travel miles the next day, to care for her horses in an emergency when her supplies were limited, and to overcome the loss of all her hopes. Riding the Crest reflects both the physical journey as well as the journey of life; choices made that directed the results, an outlook on life. Janice was raised camping and enjoying the outdoors but had never spent six months virtually alone in the wilderness.
