How did he become one of the most admired persons who ever lived? What daily experiences lead him on the path to the Presidency of the United States of America at the most difficult time of its existence? Why is he the man visitors come streaming to discover in the heartland of central Illinois? This work of Historical Fiction answers the question of what Lincoln's daily life was like. By selecting 3 very different years and researching them on a day-to-day, month-by-month basis, the picture of our 16th President becomes clearer. What Did Lincoln Do in 1832? is told through the eyes of Peggy Rutledge, one of Anne's younger sisters, and details the daily life in the remote log cabin village of New Salem, Illinois. What Did Lincoln Do in 1842? is told through the eyes of Jed, a twelve-year-old boy whom Lincoln befriends in the booming town of Springfield, Illinois. What Did Lincoln Do in 1862? is told in a stream-of-consciousness style by Tad Lincoln, Abraham's youngest son. It details the year in the White House in which Willie dies and Lincoln writes the Emancipation Proclamation. This work of Historical Fiction is grounded in research and footnoted for those whose spark is lit to do further study on this unique American who strode from obscurity to center stage not so long ago........." Set against the intrigue and pageantry of the sixteenth-century English court, Evelyn Anthony’s novel tells the love story of Henry Tudor and Anne Boleyn, who would become his wife, his queen, and the mother of one of Britain’s greatest monarchs. On a lovely midsummer afternoon, Henry Tudor rides to Hever Castle. There, he feasts his eyes on Anne Boleyn, who caught his roving attention at court a few months earlier. Anne is in no mood to receive her king. He has torn from her the one man she loved: Harry Percy, who was forced to marry another. But King Henry VIII is not a man who gives up—the thrill of the chase only excites him more. Yet the woman he desires so passionately is no fool. Educated at the French court, Anne vows that she will not share the fate of her naive younger sister, Mary, who after bearing Henry a bastard son was cast away and married off to a country squire. No, Anne will settle for nothing less than the crown of England, even if Henry has to break with Rome in order to marry her. History comes thrillingly alive in a novel that features a teeming canvas of iconic real-life characters: Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, the enemy Anne vows to destroy; Henry’s first wife, the proud and pious Queen Catherine of Aragon; and Thomas Cromwell, who engineers Anne’s downfall. From the halcyon early days of courtship to her imprisonment in the palace tower for treason, this is a tale of love, ambition, and the tragic destiny of Anne of the Thousand Days. Author's debut novel. Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional for a book of it's age, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation. It is only the exterior faults described that prevent a slightly higher grading.Despite them,it really is an exceptional example for brightness and cleanliness. 'The Clematis Tree' opens deceptively with a party in a sunny Surrey garden. It is a happy day, with relations and friends celebrating the christening of Mark and Claire's new daughter,Pippa.Jeremy, their young son, spots a pet rabbit racing across the large garden and rushes through the main gate and out into the lane.A speeding sports car knocks him down and although Jeremy survives,he is now severely brain-damaged.Widdecombe shows how a middle-class couple and their family are forced to cope with a catastrophe they never imagined could happen to them.Although also drawing on her parliamentary knowledge,'The Clematis Tree' is about people - at work,on holiday, living day by day - and how they,in their different ways, react when death threatens. What is Claire's guilty secret, she who is so outwardly efficient in dealing with Jeremy in his utterly dependent state? Mark ponders escape, but has he the nerve? Does the attention lavished on Jeremy foster Pippa's resentment? Can Claire's wealthy,self-made father provide a solution? And what effect does Claire's younger sister,Sally, an MP,have when she launches a Private Member's Bill that would legalise euthanasia?
