COMPLETE run of issue #1 to #7 of Revolver comics and two special issues (Romance & Horror) in very fine condition. Revolver was a British monthly comic anthology published by Fleetway Publications from July 1990 to January 1991. The comic was designed as a monthly companion title to Crisis and was intended to appeal to older readers than other Fleetway titles in order to take advantage of a boom in interest in 'adult' comics. Revolver was not a commercial success, and lasted just seven issues before being cancelled and merged with Crisis. 48 pages. Full Colour illustrations. 8" x 12" (200mm x 300mm). In the March 22, 1937 issue of Life, a publication just six months old, there was a cover story entitled 'Parachutes.' Margaret Bourke-White's pictures told the story of the Irving Air Chute Company in Buffalo, New York, the world's largest manufacturer of parachutes. The photographic sequence of parachutes being tested by Irving employees in this book did not make the article in 1937, but survive instead as diminutive and precious vintage prints, as art. Their wonder is in their ambiguity, their lack of captions and context, their archetypal address of the questions of human importance, of who is really pulling the strings. Printed in duotone on matt stock, and bound in Japanese saifu, this elegant little book is an important addition to the literature on this extraordinary artist. Introduction by Trudy Wilner Stack. Margaret Bourke-White had one of the most outstanding photographic careers of anyone during the twentieth century. Known initially as an industrial photographer, she proved tireless in recording the people, places, and events that shaped modern history. When Life magazine first formed in 1936, she was one of the four original staff members and one of her images graced the cover of the premier issue. In March of the following year there was a cover story entitled 'Parachutes.' Bourke-White was to photograph and present the story of the Irving Air Chute Company in Buffalo, New York, the world's largest manufacturer of parachutes.
