LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. Paperback. New. Paperback. 160 pages. Dimensions: 8.7in. x 5.9in. x 0.4in.My research is grounded in personal experience of migration and diaspora as a woman of mixed-race descent. Research for my studio practice explores the metaphor of Water Over Skin. My quest for identity is a journey resembling water that flows over lines of demarcation. I see the female body, a recurring theme, inscribed within personal, psychological and physical boundaries involving landscape, domesticity, clothing. Imagery is appropriated from Indian art and mythology; colonial history; family photographs from India and England. The work incorporates text from my own writing and a created language based on Hindustani script. The exegesis embraces an interdisciplinary approach including history, cultural studies and autobiography. Issues of difference both racial and cultural focus the research around key themes of shame, the third space of hybridity, race and gender. Referring to autobiographical elements, the transformation from a political assimilationist perspective is explored, deeply shaped by personal shame. Grounded in postmodernism and postcolonialism the exegesis draws on wide ranging theoretical perspectives to provide a framework and context for my studio practice. In this study -small scale Action Research- the teacher researcher aimed to improve her own capabilities and skills by using different strategies to motivate students to learn English language in better way. The study was conducted within two cycles in a private primary school in Karachi. The process of action research started with teacher researcher studying her own, students and class teachers views and practices of using different motivational strategies. The data revealed that using interesting and challenging activities in the class served as purposeful tools to motivate the students to find learning English interesting and meaningful. It also showed that the students became intrinsically motivated to learn, where some others needed external motives to learn better. Findings and key learning include the researchers learning as a teacher and an action researcher. Based on the findings some implications are put forward along with general conclusion of the study. Therefore, the objective of this book was to assess how microfinance empowers women given the cultural norms in Osun State, Nigeria. The assessment involved an examination of the access of women in the informal sector to microfinance programmes, the patriarchal cultural norms in the state, the effect of microfinance and influence of cultural norms on the empowerment of women. The study found that the women found informal sources of microfinance more accessible. In addition, women who access microfinance exhibit a high level of empowerment in the economic, interpersonal and familial, and psychological dimensions, but carry the greater burden for the welfare of the family. The study results affirm the significant role of microfinance in women empowerment and the need for the strengthening of informal sources of microfinance. It also brings to fore the need for women groups to advocate for political representation for women, and changes in cultural norms and practices that are inimical to women. As American utopian fiction often tells a social story through an individual psychologied language, the repression and satisfaction of desire becomes the axis of the whole narrative. This kind of visions and representations of desire is in accord with American Romance tradition defined by mainstream critics, and therefore reflects, to a great extent, a unique feature of American literature. As an original study of American utopian narratives, this book should be very useful to scholars in utopian studies. This item ships from multiple locations. Such evidence is indicative of potentially schema-refreshing effects such a text could have upon Romanian readers who are proficient in English. Analysing the gender dimension in the schemata likely to be activated by young Romanian female intellectuals provides further insight into the language and social practices specific of such readers as a community of practice. Novel viewpoints on the reception of Western hegemonic and alternative masculinities within an Eastern- European, post-communist cultural environment will emerge. It is in the intention of this book to reveal whether a readership like young Romanian female intellectuals is still traditionally-minded and gender-schematic with respect to alternative masculinities or has become psychologically ready to acknowledge the pluralisation of masculinities. Continuously growing immigration to Canada and other English-speaking countries sustains a high demand on educators and counselors to develop competencies in assisting arrivals who may go through hard times adjusting to the new setting. Providing culturally sensitive support to these cohorts, teachers and counselors should be aware of the wide range of unconscious disquiets, those deeply-felt needles underpinning language use and cultural adaptation that hinder the paths to personal success. The study of multiple manifestations of the language ego, a phenomenon that can account for the stinging sensations of inadequacy, or the disquiets of the self lost in struggle with the unknown, is a focus of this work. The idea enables an investigation of the interplay of identity, gender and culture and in the light of recent debates by many critics about how women can be granted equality with men in all human relations. It has become imperative to examine the complex nature of identity in the context of perceptions of women in traditional and modern societies. Time and space (location and period) as well as concepts of enslavement, liberation, rebellion, negotiation, invisibility and complementarity are shown to be central cultural issues in the realization of female identity. Womens narratives from different places and even eras of African historiesexperiences, politics and cultures are critically analyzed to demonstrate women writers perspectives into identity and cultural determinants. Biology, linguistics, psychology and other cultural issues underscore the women writers narrative insights. The writers are shown to focus on communalism and complementarity in their representation of their thematic interests. This item ships from multiple locations.
